Our Mission

Our mission at Nature-Link Institute is to connect individuals with the natural environment through research, education and advocacy.

Our Philosophy
We think that there has to be a better way to a healthier environment and that way is through integration of humans with their local environment. If we view ourselves as a part of the local environment, then by taking care of the environment, we are also taking care of ourselves, our families, our communities and our species. A healthy and productive environment allows for healthy and productive humans. One way Nature-Link can help to reconnect individuals to their environment is through education, research and advocacy.
Education
Education is one of the best ways to promote change. All of our projects and programs are developed with education as a key component. We believe that by educating people about reconnecting individuals with their environment we can affect changes in how people view nature. By giving people the skills to move comfortably over the landscape we begin the process of teaching them how to reconnect with the environment. We also give them knowledge of local and global development issues that affect communities dependent on natural resources.
Research
Research can help to quantify environmental and cultural effects of resource allocation and provide us with a qualitative understanding of political issues and environmental perceptions. We believe it takes a multi-disciplinary approach to address such complex human-environmental interactions. As such, we collaborate with scholars and local experts in many disciplines and on many continents.
Advocacy
However, in order to achieve this goal, we also realize that environmental and social responsibilities are linked. Strong and stable social systems based on a conception of nature as part of the human experience are essential in maintaining a strong and healthy environment. Social and political instability and corruption lead to environmental and social degradation. We are also committed to building stronger social systems through networking and advocacy.
